Profiling our task groups and committees: Communications

JillHealthcare

VPSA’s  Communications Committee ensures appropriate and timely communication with members about events, project submissions and other Facility Engagement Initiative milestones and activities. The committee’s physician members are VCH Medical Director LTC Dr. Marla Gordon and VPSA President and emergency medicine physician Dr. Ka Wai Cheung. VPSA’s Director of Operations Andrew Pinfold, Projects Manager Annapurna Chavali, Administrative Assistant Cindy Liang, and Communications Lead Jill Lunde round out the committee.

Members are contacted weekly via the Checkup e-newsletter that includes info on VPSA and VMDAS events as well as helpful resources. The newsletter is sent to over 2,200 people and has a consistent open rate of more than 50 per cent. The committee will be sending out a Checkup readership survey soon; please provide feedback on the weekly e-newsletter. The group is also keen to engage members who have traditionally not been as involved and would like to hear ideas about how to reach them.

“VPSA’s Communications Committee is different from our other committees and task groups in that it is a governance committee and as such includes a member of the board,” said Dr. Cheung. “Communications is the crux of our operations, and we are always looking at ways to reach out and engage with more members.”

“It’s important that the clinician voice be part of this committee so that the VPSA team is not operating without our input,” added Dr. Gordon. “I really enjoy being part of this group and putting forward my ideas for enhanced communication.”

The Communications Committee is currently recruiting for an additional member. The group meets for one hour at 9 am on the third Thursday of the month. Sessional funding is provided. Click here for the application form.
