Sunday, August 9: 10:30 am - 12 noon - In-person commensality event

Commensality groups allow small groups of people to gather and discuss a predetermined topic. Building on our successful Commensality Dinner Groups, we are offering an in-person, family-friendly session at Trout Lake Park in Vancouver that is open to all VPSA medical staff members.

We're going with a summer-themed topic: How do you use vacations and time away from work strategically to restore yourself? Drs. Junella Lee and Fahreen Dossa will host this special session. We provide the lunch and children are welcome to attend and enjoy the park's playgrounds and open spaces. (If your little one(s) are with you, please bring any special toys or food that they may wish to enjoy during the session.)

Monday, August 10: 5:30 pm - WISE Journal Club: Gender and Academic Rank Disparities in Electronic Health Record Burden Among Otolaryngologists

The Women in Surgery in ENT (WISE) Journal Club started in the Division of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. The group meets quarterly and is open to all health-care providers interested in equity, diversity, and inclusion.

At the next session, UBC Laryngology Fellow Dr. Shuruq Almasoudi, will interview Dr. John Paul Giliberto, Assistant Chief Clinical Information Officer for Surgical Services at the University of Washington about this article.

VCH Physician Leadership Mentorship Program: Call for mentees

The VCH Physician Leadership Mentorship Program aims to support aspiring or new/emerging physician leaders from equity-deserving groups (including Indigenous people, women, racialized/Black and people of colour, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+) to:

  • Achieve their full potential through guidance around organizational navigation
  • Expand professional networks
  • Facilitate personal and career development

For the program (which, beginning this year, is for VA and VC physicians only), we are accepting nine exceptional new/aspiring physician leaders from the equity-deserving groups outlined above.

The time commitment is 10 hours over nine months. CME credits.

    Funding available for quality improvement, physician wellness, substance use disorder, and/or planetary health initiatives 

    Vancouver Physician Staff Association members may submit project ideas for consideration for funding. Proposed initiatives should align with at least one of VPSA’s priorities;  quality improvement, physician wellness, substance use disorder, and/or planetary health.
