VCH Medical Staff Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee
The VCH Medical Staff Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee's goal is to advance equity and inclusion within medical staff roles across the organization with a mandate to address all types of diversity.
The EDI Steering Committee oversees the work of its subcommittees:
- The EDI Leadership Group
- The Ambassadors and Engagement Group
- Working Groups
The role of the Steering Committee is to:
- Provide support, guidance and monitor progress of the Leaders Group and working groups as they develop implementation plans for each of their activities.
- Review and prioritize recommendations arising from the Leaders Group.
- Identify and/or address duplication of efforts, interdependencies and resource requirements and align with VCH and other EDI related initiatives as appropriate.
- Make recommendations/advocate to VCH senior leadership, MSAs, and others as appropriate, on implementation of actions assigned to these respective groups/organizations.
- Engage in strategic planning with relevant stakeholders to assist in achieving the committee’s purpose.
- Identify and monitor potential risks.
- Ensure achievement of outcomes.
- Communicate and socialize the work among VCH medical staff and others.

The role of the Leaders Group is to:
- Provide direction, support, guidance and monitor progress of all working groups.
- In partnership with the Regional Medical Director EDI, establish priorities and activities of the Medical Staff EDI Committee and make recommendations for budget allocation.
- Identify and/or address duplication of efforts, interdependencies and resource requirements and align with VCH and other DEI related initiatives as appropriate.
- Partner as appropriate with VCH and/or other organizations to advance EDI for medical staff.
- Engage in strategic planning with relevant stakeholders to assist in achieving the committee’s purpose.
- Make recommendations to the steering committee re: structural and process changes, to better enable work of the Medical Staff EDI Committee.

The role of the Ambassadors and Engagement Group is to:
- Have awareness of EDI/Anti-racism/Indigenous Cultural Safety strategies/initiatives and resources within the Health Authority.
- Members to be ambassadors for EDI within the HA, and in their own service area.
- Members build skills in EDI/Anti-Racism/ICS to promote engagement of others in EDI/AR/ICS.
- Members encouraged to participate in other EDI Committee WG and/or encourage participation of other medical staff.
