Wednesday, October 22: 6 - 7 pm - Dinner with Leaders: Dr. Roger Wong

Dr. Roger Wong assumed the position of VP, Medicine and Academic Affairs at VCH in September 2025 and is looking forward to working with his fellow physicians and medical staff in creating a high-performing portfolio.

Join Dr. Wong as he shares his journey, which most recently includes nearly a decade as Vice Dean of Education in the UBC Faculty of Medicine. In this role, he collaborated with government and provincial health partners to expand and geographically distribute undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Dr. Wong, who was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2020, is also a Clinical Professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine, a Consultant Physician with the Geriatric Consultation Program at the Vancouver General Hospital and a researcher at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.

Attend via Zoom.

Bring your Planetary Health ideas to life! Access up to $5,000 in funding

The VA/VC Planetary Health Committee  funds projects that focus on:

  • Prevention (reducing demand for health services)
  • Stewardship (match supply of health services to demand)
  • Decarbonization (reducing emissions from supply of health services)
  • Adaptability (resilience and adaptation strategies; e.g., establish triage systems for prioritizing care under conditions of scarcity)

Planetary Health project funding can be used for sessional payments, meals, venue costs, and/or speaker or consultant fees.

What's involved?

  1. Think of an idea and a team to do it with OR submit your current initiative.
  2. Sketch out what you would do and how you would do it (using our Letter of Intent template).
  3. Once approved, we'll invite you to submit a more detailed project proposal.
  4. We give feedback and suggestions for your project.
  5. Do it!

Complete our Letter of Intent here

Deadline: October 17, 2025

Small Steps Big Idea funding available

VPSA's Small Steps, Big Idea funding provides $1,000 to $5,000 to selected applicants to develop concepts that meet VPSA criteria.

Contemplating a larger scale project that doesn't fit with these budgetary constraints? We may be able to accommodate you. Please contact projects@vpsa.ca.

Check out our process, which begins with a letter of intent from VPSA physician members. Visit this link for more information.

Other VPSA funding opportunities

VPSA is currently offering two other streams of funding that your department or division head can apply for:

  • Wellness champions funding (see here for examples of previously funded projects). Applications are accepted on a quarterly basis. There is currently funding for four more groups; projects submitted before the quarterly deadlines may be considered before the deadline on a case-by-case basis.
  • Retention and recruitment funding (see here for an article with examples of funded projects)

Do you have ideas that would fit? Talk to your department or division head and encourage them to apply or contact VPSA Operations Director Andrew Pinfold.
