Spiced Tofu - possibly the quickest recipe ever!

Contributor: Dr. Rashmi Chadha and certified delicious by two discerning teenage palates

4 Servings

1 package silken tofu

2 tablespoons (tbsp) dark soy sauce (or tamari)

1 tbsp black bean sauce with garlic

1 teaspoon (tsp) toasted sesame oil

1tsp cider vinegar

1 tsp chilli garlic sambal

1 tsp white sugar

½ to 1 cup roasted nuts of your choice (I like peanuts!) - roughly crushed (not to powder)

2-3 garlic cloves - minced

To serve:

2 green onions - finely chopped

½ bunch of cilantro (leaves and stalks) - roughly chopped

Cooked jasmine rice

White or black sesame seeds (optional)

  • Put silken tofu on serving plater. Cut it widthwise into short planks. Let water drain off tofu and pour off.
  • In a small pan gently heat soy, black bean garlic sauce, cider vinegar, sesame oil, chilli-garlic sambal, and sugar.
  • Once gently simmering, add garlic. Reduce heat and cook on low for another 2-3 minutes to let flavour develop.
  • Add chopped nuts.
  • Pour this prepared sauce over the tofu.
  • Springle cilantro and green onions over the tofu.
  • Serve with jasmine rice. Add a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added protein and taste.
