VMDAS members gathered online and in person on September 14 for the announcement of the 2020 VMDAS awards for achievement and long service milestones. The pandemic has shined a light on how important the services that we provide are and the evening, presided over by VMDAS President Dr. Eric Yoshida and Vice-President Dr. Alison Harris ,was a chance to pay tribute to the extraordinary contributions members make to patient care and wellbeing.

Special tributes were made to Dr. Patricia Daly, who received a Certificate of Merit for her work throughout the pandemic, as well as to Dr. Sheldon Howard, who is celebrating 50 years of service. (Dr. Howard was recently featured in a Vancouver Sun article.)

“Our Awards Night highlights the inescapable fact that we have exceptional and dedicated people working at VGH, UBC and GF Strong who deserve recognition for their service and their extraordinary accomplishments,” said Dr. Yoshida. “The brief remarks from the recipients, both the medical staff award recipients and the milestone year of service speakers, were poignant and indicate the true commitment that all have for this institution. In particular, it was truly an honour and a privilege to have Dr. Howard in attendance to receive his 50 Years of Service Award from the VMDAS, as well as his service pin and certificate from the hospital and to have his son Andrew, who received his 15 Years of Service pin and certificate, also in attendance. Let’s hope that Shelly can say a few words when he receives his 55 years of service award down the road!”
